**FESTIVAL2006 ILLUMINATED**
EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

**Grupo de Rua de Niterói** **Bruno Beltrão** Choreographer

A new talent has burst into the contemporary dance world: Brazilian Bruno Beltrão and his company of extraordinary dancers take the movement language of hip hop into a new dimension with breathtaking feats of physical control, explosive energy and mesmerising stillness. Originally inspired by the hip hop dance and music phenomena, Beltrão has taken street dance and used it to inform, shape and colour his contemporary dance. The company has been generating rave reviews across North and South America and continental Europe. Don't miss the chance to catch them in their first UK appearance.

*[Texto lateral em rosa]* & In contemporary dance choreographers have always considered all artforms and popular movements as a source of inspiration. Bruno Beltrão is unusual in that his background is in street dancing and it is contemporary dance that he has developed to create his unique works. **Telesquat** **Mon 14 – Sat 19 August 8.00pm** **THE HUB**
The term *telesquat* originated in the 1950s to describe what happens to people who watch too much television.

This is Beltrão's starting point for a highly entertaining examination of human interaction using dance, narration, multimedia and humour. Each evening *Telesquat* is paired with a different additional work.

*H2* is a spectacular work in which dancers interact with huge video images against the background of an endless horizon. Beltrão brings together the best Brazilian street dancers of the current generation for *H2*, as only they have the physical skill, stamina and strength to perform this remarkable work. *H2* honours hip hop but goes way beyond it, creating a vibrant, surprising and fully fledged new artform.
